York Region Arts Council
YRAC is set to impact York region’s visual and performing arts scenes in a big way in 2010, having received two significant sources of funding: a $275,000 Trillium grant and $250,000 raised at last Fall’s Chairman’s Gala for the Arts.
As an arts marketing organization, a significant proportion if YRAC’s budget will go toward the Spring 2010 launch of YorkScene.com, THE one-stop-shop for all arts, culture and entertainment information and news in the region. The dynamic website will contain a comprehensive listing of shows and events by municipality, user uploaded show reviews, an e-ticketing function, an artist video gallery, an artist marketplace (for buying and selling of art) and night scene entertainment listings.
In addition, First Annual York Region Arts and Culture Conference is scheduled for early 2011 and the Ontario Trillium Foundation will participate in the steering and planning committee. The conference will provide a valuable arts and cultural related educational and networking forum that will enhance learning and facilitate the exchange of information, best practices and ideas.
A portion of Chair Bill Fisch’s contribution will go toward a YRAC-administered bursary programme for individual artists – details will be announced mid-2010.
