Schomberg Village Street Gallery 2009

(September 26 + 27, 2009)

WHAT A WEEKEND!

300 history, art and heritage buffs visiting Greg and Tracy’s renovated heritage-barn-come-glass-studio alone!

Countless more art buffs viewing and buying Greg’s fused and stained glass works – right from a gallery in front of their house!

The first annual Schomberg Village Street Gallery was a HIT!

We have lots of members of our community to thank for its success – not to mention the weatherand the local musicians who added to our enjoyment of SVSG, including pianist Rick Mauti of Schomberg and Hugh Barnett of Arcadia Music.

We got a nice break here as it POURED rain on Monday.

Greg and his good friend and neighbour Tom Wray; and well known community volunteers Judy Craig, Charles Cooper, Susanne Prince and Marianne Broome lead a committee supported by Arts Society King to put on this first annual juried fine art street gallery and sale along the Main Street of historic Schomberg, north-west of Toronto.

21 artists from varied media including acrylic, watercolour, photography, ceramic, and glass pitched their tents and works for 2 days – and the results, especially in these hard economic times, are positively surprising.

Greg and his wife Tracy had a few things to prepare for and manage over the weekend:

– Help manage the last-minute details for the event with the committee and volunteer staff;
– Prepare rear gardens and Gotham Glassworks studio ready for their participation in Doors Open King as a heritage location;
– Make more fused glass works for sale at the show! A batch of platters came out of the kiln that Saturday morning – just in time;
– Construct a driveway “gallery” within a 20′ x 10′ tent includug tables, display stands, easels and accessories;
– Manage the gallery-booth, the studio and gardens during the show AND Doors Open on the Saturday.

Greg looks forward to planning next year’s “SVSG II” for next Fall with the SVSG committee. They will consider how to expand and fine-tune the event based on feedback from the participating artists, merchants, current and potential sponsors, the ASK Board, and most importantly – art lovers like YOU.

Please feel free to Contact Greg with any thoughts on making the show better for next year!
