Eastern Delight

This 21″ diameter circular window panel glimmers and dances in the morning sun, with a clear beveled inset to allow for visibility of the gardens behind it.

This is a piece from my personal collection, and here’s why: I made this for my Mother, which she wanted me to have back when she passed away from old age some years ago. She loved looking at this piece in the morning hours, when the sun would shine through her east-facing windows.

The traditional English “Muffle Glass” as it’s called, (the amber colour) sparkled luminously. The beveled clear glass added elegance and transparency. I remember toiling at my then glass store and knowledge source, Glowing Panes Glassworks in Thornhill (northern suburb of Toronto), to bend the 1″ wide zinc border channel to a perfect circle!

So it’s not for sale – sorry. But … I’m happy to make something for you that celebrates the elements of this design’s delight!

  1. This work is quite special for I made it for my Mother.

Late in life she was relatively confined to her home; it hung in an east-facing window in her living room where the morning sun would bring a glistening array of amber and green into her day.

She also enjoyed being able to see the view behind it through the clear beveled inset.

Needless to say this piece is not for sale but I want to share it with you here; it welcomes Tracy and I every morning.

I welcome your comments!
